Description
This 1965 Sunbeam Tiger Mk 1 was briefly set up for SCCA racing by the first owner and is said to have been returned to street duty by 1966. The seller purchased the car in late 1974, and a 289ci Ford V8 was installed around 1978. The car was repainted in metallic red in the 1990s, and the black interior was refurbished. Equipment includes a four-speed manual transmission, a black convertible top, a body-color removable hardtop, a cowl-induction hood, LAT 70–style 13″ alloy wheels, traction bars, exhaust headers, an 8k-rpm tachometer, Simpson seatbelts, a Hurst shifter, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio. A Holley four-barrel carburetor and replacement spark-plug wires were installed in preparation for the sale.
Finished from the factory in Midnight Blue (58), the car has been repainted multiple times under current ownership and was repainted in its current shade of metallic red in the late 1990s. The chrome bumpers and trim have been replated. A cowl-induction domed hood was installed in the 1960s, and the wheel openings were radiused and flared. The car also has a driver-side mirror and polished dual exhaust tips. The black convertible top and the body-color removable hardtop are pictured in the gallery below. The hardtop was fitted with replacement weatherstripping in July 2024.
LAT 70–style 13″ alloy wheels with knockoff-style center caps are mounted with Mickey Thompson tires measuring 215/60 in the front and 245/50 at the rear; the tires were replaced most recently in the late 1990s. The suspension has been modified with a larger front sway bar and rear traction bars. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums, and the seller notes that the front brake pads squeak until they warm up.
