Description
This 1969 Ford Torino Sportsroof is one of the approximately 750 examples equipped with the Talladega option that was created to meet NASCAR homologation requirements. The package included an extended front nose cone, a flush-mounted grille and headlamps, special rocker panels, and a black hood and tail panel. The car was sold new by Sunset Auto Company in Saint Louis, Missouri and was previously owned by former NASCAR crew chief and team owner Ray Evernham. Finished in blue over black upholstery, the car is powered by a 428ci Cobra Jet V8 mated to a C6 three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes 14″ styled-steel wheels, power steering, front disc brakes, glasspack mufflers, and a push-button AM radio.
Ford’s Fairlane lineup for 1969 contained the top-trim Torino branch, which offered high-performance Torino GT and Cobra versions. Based on the Cobra Sportsroof fastback, the Talladega was created because NASCAR required Ford to produce 750 examples for competition homologation. Talladega equipment consisted of a flush-mounted grille, a modified front bumper, an extended and sloped nose, reshaped rocker panels, and a black hood and tail panel. Finished from the factory in Presidential Blue (X), this car is said to have been repainted under prior ownership. Additional exterior details include chrome bumpers, color-keyed side mirrors, and dual exhaust outlets with bright finishers.
Silver-finished 14″ styled-steel wheels featuring bright trim rings and hubcaps are mounted with Goodyear Polyglas F70-14 white-letter tires that were installed in 2018. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
